[Edit]Denise LaSalle's Malaco albums have all been fine productions, usually featuring some sassy love songs, heartfelt bluesy ballads, and one or two numbers complete with spoken interludes in which the woman tells off the man. Unfortunately, none of them have matched her Westbound or ABC/MCA releases, mainly because soul no longer gets the same kind of widespread airplay outside the South. LaSalle has the kind of rough, tough yet vulnerable sound ideal for these songs, and her delivery has as much country and blues influence as soul and gospel. Her style and Malaco's productions may be dated, but they're the kind of vintage sound that anyone who grew up in the '50s and '60s will always revere.
