[Edit]The David Crosby Box is an abridged version of 2006’s Voyage — tracks by the Byrds have been omitted due to label licensing issues (though most Crosby fans already have those recordings) — but the cult favorite “Triad” snuck in through a loophole. Recorded in 1967 for The Notorious Byrd Brothers, Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman vetoed the tune due to its lyrical content musing on a ménage à trois. Other gems include “Cowboy Movie” from Crosby’s 1971 solo debut If I Could Only Remember My Name where Neil Young’s recognizable guitar lead sounds like he’s playing with one finger on the fretboard. The previously unreleased “Samurai” is a true gift as Crosby croons a cappella gold with just a touch of reverb elongating his inflections. Penned for his son Django, a live version of “Dream for Him” perfectly bookends this outstanding collection.
