[Edit]Darrell Banks is an underrated Northern soul belter best-known for the classic "Open the Door to Your Heart." His smooth sound with just a trace of grit is reminiscent of soul men like Freddie Scott and Garnet Mimms. This collection rounds up the entire album he recorded for the Atlantic subsidiary Atco in 1967, the fabulous Darrell Banks Is Here, plus six other tracks recorded around the same time. Four of the songs are previously unreleased, including the clunkily titled but super funky "I'm Knocking at Your Heart, Please Let Me In." This is solid soul all the way through; any fan of '60s soul will want some Darrell Banks in their collection. Until a reissue label like Sundazed or Ace gets on the ball and does a "complete recordings of Darrell Banks" set, this collection is just as good as the other Banks collection that has been released. Granted, it does have less tracks than the others, but it is probably easier to find and the sound quality is a slight improvement.
