The debut by Philly rapper Cyssero is credited to "Cyssero AKA Rockstar," a superfluous second handle that he ostentatiously killed off on this album's follow-up, Protege of the Game. A sprawling two-disc affair packed with 36 tracks (all full-length, none of the skits and interludes common to hip-hop releases), Philly's Bad Guy shows a young and hungry rapper with a serious need for an editor and mentor. Cyssero is clearly talented, with a tough but dexterous flow not dissimilar to the Game, who would soon take on that role with the young rapper. (The Game's one track on the album, "Smell Like That," is definitely a high point.) But not even OutKast was able to do a two-CD set with no filler, and certainly this early in his career, Cyssero is no OutKast. In particular, the second disc, which features a lot of guest shots by various members of Cyssero's crew, is pretty extraneous mixtape material, but even the first disc would be greatly improved by judicious editing and a sharper mix that better emphasizes the bass-heavy beats.
