Details
[Edit]Founded in Germany in the late '80s by trombonist Rudi Fuesers, Conexion Latina, which features both Afro-Cuban jazz and salsa, teams together musicians from Germany, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Denmark, and the United States. This particular CD is quite strong. The live set casts Conexion Latina as a mighty 15-piece orchestra with seven horns and four percussionists plus four vocalists. Four of the nine selections involve singing (with Anthony Martinez and Javier Plaza taking turns as lead vocalist) while the instrumentals have solos from veteran jazz trumpeter Benny Bailey (in top form) and tenor saxophonist Bobby Stern. The ensembles are stirring and the multinational group is often quite exciting. Recommended.
