Concert for George presents an all-star cast paying tribute to George Harrison a year after his death, on November 29, 2002, at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Eric Clapton served as musical director and contributes many fine performances of Harrison’s most beloved compositions (“If I Needed Someone,” “Beware of Darkness”). Paul McCartney teams with Clapton for a dramatic interpretation of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” begins “Something” on ukulele, an instrument that McCartney claims was of great amusement to Harrison, and remains in top form, putting great emotion behind “All Things Must Pass.” Ringo Starr belts out “Photograph,” his Harrison-penned hit, and “Honey Don’t,” a Carl Perkins number once performed with the Beatles. This iTunes edition includes “Horse to the Water,” an impressive unreleased original penned by George and his son Dhani, and performed by Sam Brown and Jools Holland. Harrison’s interest in Indian music is emphasized with performances by his mentor Ravi Shankar’s daughter Anoushka, who collaborates with Jeff Lynne for a faithful reading of “The Inner Light.” It’s clearly a night put together with great love and affection for a much missed musician.
