[Edit]What do you get when you blend meretricious French vocals with mild salsa? In the case of Oscar & Co.'s Tell Mambo, one gets a timid slate of highly stylized salsa tunes. Taking center stage in the band's songs are the vocals of Francophone bandleader JF Oscar Hammel. Though the ensemble itself is tight and plays each tune competently, Hammel's vocals — which are placed in the forefront of the mix — detract from the efficacy of the CD's overall impact and give it a sort of uninspired aura.
