[Edit]Concerning a hotshot cook who ditches his four-star gig for the freedom of a food truck, the plot of Chef mirrors Jon Favreau's return to directing an indie film after blockbusters like Iron Man. The movie's ebullient soundtrack of salsa, reggae, ska, and funk expresses the joy of rediscovering one's passions, as well as the exotic flavors of the urban street. The roiling soul-funk of The Martini's "Hungover" captures that woozy state of mind, while the roller-rink disco of Ronnie Hudson & The Street People's "West Coast Poplock" sounds like a block party in the making. Lyle Workman's acoustic instrumental "One Second Every Day" is the perfect digestif after this rousing meal.
