[Edit]After releases on Series 22 and Cloudberry, the duo of Matthew Pendlebury and Chris Tiplady decided to boost the sound, and cred, of their sophisticated indie pop endeavor by adding former Trembling Blue Stars member Beth Arzy to the band. The trio's Matinée debut, the Dishevelled Revellers EP, has the hallmarks of a band very much in debt to the '80s pop sound of groups like Prefab Sprout and Trash Can Sinatras. Jangling layers of guitars, rich vocal harmonies, and tricky chord changes frame the four songs here, and while none of them has quite the same gleefully hooky energy and drive of the bands they so obviously admire, there is plenty here to enjoy. With a little more time and work, they may even end up crafting music that stands the test of time, too. As it is, this quick and pleasant EP serves as a nice little calling card.
