Carol Noonan lived up to the promise of Absolution with her equally superb sophomore effort, Noonan Building & Wrecking. This is a CD that, with the right exposure, could have made Noonan as big as Natalie Merchant or Melissa Etheridge. In fact, anyone doubting that she is in a class with those singers need only listen to "Creatures of Habit," "Did You Ever" or "Love You Til the End," songs demonstrating that she is an artist of considerable depth and substance. Not that Noonan sounds like either Merchant or Etheridge, but she does parallel them in her ability to deliver amplified folk and jangly-guitar music that rock and pop fans can appreciate. And she also has a certain amount of country appeal. It wasn't hard to imagine the twangy "Getty" being played on a mid-1990s country station next to Tricia Yearwood or Patty Loveless. But while Noonan Building & Wrecking may not have been a multi-platinum seller, the New Englander did have a small following that swore by her.
