In 1960, tenor saxophonist Bud Freeman recorded an album for Swingville with a quintet that included the lyrical trumpeter Harold "Shorty" Baker. This concert LP from the Jazz Archives collectors' label has Freeman and Baker joined by trombonist Tyree Glenn (showcased on "The Lonesome Road"), pianist Gene Schroeder, bassist Bob Haggart and drummer George Wettling. In addition, three of the eight numbers add trumpeter Red Allen, who dominates the music. The performances are solid mainstream music that hints equally at both Dixieland and small-group swing. Nothing essential, but fans of the idiom will enjoy this rarity.
