Of the many drumming titles available, Earth Tribe Rhythms is perhaps the most entertaining and fun-filled. Brent Lewis uses the Ikauma drums, a system of 22 tuned drums mounted on a large stand, allowing him to play tunes as well as a wide variety of percussion styles. Lewis has traveled the world learning his craft, and studied extensively with Kwasi Badu, drummer for the King of Ghana. Lewis plays all the parts on this multitracked album, with the melodies most apparent in the strong basslines that provide the foundation. Most of the tunes are uptempo and range from the almost poppish "Bone to Bone" to the tropical undulations of "Caribbean Sea," and from the Middle Eastern "Potent Potion" to the dense jungle impressionism of "Tribal Consciousness." There are no dull moments here, only high-energy dance grooves by this master percussionist. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats, Rovi
