There's a down-home wit and wisdom to Brad Paisley that sets him apart from many of his Nashville peers. Paisley sings with a young man's swagger and urgency, yet brings a deep love of old-fashioned country to the table. Time Well Wasted gives us more of Paisley's perceptive looks at life, with a few new musical twists and special guest stars thrown in. The album yielded an initial hit with "Alcohol," a brilliant depiction of the glory and shame unleashed by the bottle. Really, though, there's a host of hits, real and should have been, here. Paisley's songwriting is in top form, and his guitar playing (especially on the instrumental "Time Warp") is simply ferocious. Alan Jackson stops by for a duet on the wry "Out In the Parkin' Lot" and Dolly Parton lends her voice to the uplifting "When I Get Where I'm Going." Time Well Wasted? All singers should waste it this well.
