Since the 1997 film Boogie Nights reflected on the porn industry of the late '70s and early '80s, the disco selections here are a bit sultrier than those by The Bee Gees on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The sweaty strut of Chakachas' "Jungle Fever" sounds like it was intentionally made to soundtrack adult films. But the soulful melodies pouring from The Emotions' “Best of My Love” are a sunny reminder of the carefree good times that came with the era of polyester bellbottoms and giant mirror balls rotating above dance floors. The soundtrack producers did well to include non-disco gems as well. Melanie’s whimsical “Brand New Key” is a playful folk-pop tune that scored an unforgettable performance by Heather Graham’s rollerskating character, Rollergirl. And Eric Burdon’s festive Brit-funk hit “Spill the Wine” punctuated the material spoils of porn’s profits. As the ‘70s seeped into the ‘80s in the film, it made perfect sense to include power ballads like Night Ranger’s high school graduation anthem “Sister Christian.”
