Bobby Rydell was one of the classiest teen idols of the '60s. Now and Then! welds the smashes that made him a heartthrob and recurrent 16 Magazine cover boy with Frank Sinatra-type big-band swingers. Cameo/Parkway marketed Rydell to teens because he was a teen himself; however, he came off as MOR, so the different eras mesh well. Rydell's "Volare" is night and day from the drivel most teen idols regurgitated (i.e., Fabian's "Tiger"). He just didn't do pubescent pap like "Dede Dinah," "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini," or "Lightnin' Strikes." Rydell was on another level.
