Blondie have never been conventional: their mix of disco, funk, calypso, hip-hop, and post-punk was iconoclastic from the start. But dig this: to celebrate their 40th anniversary and 10th studio album, Ghost of Download, they've bundled it with a collection of rerecorded versions of their greatest hits. Classics like "Heart of Glass" and "Rapture" sound fuller here, and Debbie Harry's voice is more alluring than flirty. The new songs, meanwhile, are as eclectic as ever. "I Screwed Up" mixes norteƱo accordions with a reggae beat and features Spanish rapping from the Oakland duo Las Rakas. "Rave" is a swirling dance track, and "A Rose by Any Other Name" is throbbing electro-rock with a cameo from Beth Ditto. Upping the eclecticism ante, Blondie deliver an alternately somber and rousing version of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 1983 hit "Relax."
