The Fabulous Benny Goodman is part of RCA's 1999 Fabulous series, which compiles hits and highlights from the RCA recordings of famous swing and big-band artists, like Benny Goodman. For collectors, there's nothing new here, but it's a good basic collection of strong readings of such classics as "One O'Clock Jump," "In a Sentimental Mood," "These Foolish Things," "Goody Good," and "Sing Sing Sing." There are hits missing, of course, but for casual listeners looking for an entertaining roundup of some of Goodman's finest swing (including cuts with vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Martha Tilton, and Helen Ward), this works nicely.
