[Edit]In line with a self-made tradition, Jay McCallister's eighth record was released in December. Spanner in the Works is very much in keeping with his particular blend of politically charged folk, which has led to comparisons with Billy Bragg and Frank Turner. The lead single, "2016," is a perfect example of his sonically D.I.Y. approach, and the themes that concern him. In the song, he recounts the many losses suffered in that year, from David Bowie to Victoria Wood, and goes on to slam governments along with UKIP leader Nigel Farage.
