Farewell to the King reunites composer Basil Poledouris with filmmaker John Milius, his collaborator on past hits including Conan the Barbarian and Red Dawn, and the end result is another sweeping epic rich in rhythmic color and exotic detail. A deeply romantic score wrought from lush strings, bold brass and striking ethnic instruments, Farewell to the King is a dense listen, by turns noble and savage—Poledouris captures both the primal aggression and the mystical energy of the film's tribal setting, conjuring a world as vivid and as foreign as Conan's sword-and-sorcery milieu.
