The album showcases not only his MC skills and production techniques but, more than anything, his ambition. The young African-American rapper from Los Angeles embodies the D.I.Y. mentality without ever resorting to exploitation or cheap gimmicks. Rap Tactics is a respectable album more interested in impressing you with its rhymes and beats than violence and sex — a true rarity in the West Coast rap underground. Guests include Poppin' Fresh, J. Dandridge, Blue Steel, Richie-B, Gold, and Kutt Master Kellam. Recommended to anyone looking for some indie rap from the West Coast scene emphasizing hip-hop rather than gangsta motifs.
