Autopilot's follow-up to 1999's The Voice Inside attempts to strike a balance between cold brooding and club coloration, as well as find a listenable subgenre of art-flecked beats and the ambient hints of electro music. To a degree, it's a success, at least in that things feel centered, in control, and managed well within the disparate sounds. "Monomonk" and "Solitaire" are quality space music and no doubt the acid flange of "Pornscratcher in Paradise" is a good example of modern German electro-dance. Everything else, however, struggles. As in his debut, World Receiver won't win over anyone who wasn't already familiar with the Elektrolux sound — by working toward a light middle ground, Autopilot remains an intelligent, enjoyable, funk-less mess.
