Aqua Teen Hunger Force has developed enough of a cult following to expand into theaters with a feature length film, and this accompanying soundtrack. It took some doing to come up with a soundtrack that is as gonzo and resolutely absurd as the cartoon itself, but the good folks at Adult Swim have delivered. A mix of skits from the show’s characters, new music from hip friends of the program (Killer Mike, The Hold Steady), and a heavy dose of preposterous heavy metal — almost everything on this soundtrack is sure to piss off and/or confuse parents, neighbors, and passersby if played at maximum volume. There are probably some people out there who won’t appreciate the joke of having death metal bruisers Mastodon open the album with their Iron Maiden-inspired take on the standard pre-movie theater messages (“If I see you videotaping this movie, Satan will rain down your throat with hot acid and dissolve your testicles and turn your guts into snakes!”), but this album has no regard for such fogies. Fans of Aqua Teen Hunger Force revel in its assault on all order and sanity, and they now have a musical equivalent. Besides, you have to respect any cartoon that has Schoolly D doing its theme song.
