Apocalypse never really struck it big outside of their native U.K., which is a shame since fans of the Jam and the U.K. power pop sound would have championed the group to greater heights. With the band languishing in near obscurity for nearly two decades, Cherry Red finally had the good sense to reissue a large majority of Apocalypse's output from their most important years, including demos produced by Paul Weller and Overend Watts. As an additional bonus, remixes from Mad Professor are included, which don't quite fit but are an interest curiosity nevertheless. Due to contractual hassles, their recordings from EMI couldn't be included, but this anthology bests any of the EMI material anyway, as it's the raw nature of this music that makes it so accessible and endearing.
