Renowned for careful historical interpretations and skillful ensemble singing, the four women of Anonymous 4 have few peers when it comes to interpreting medieval vocal music. The group began their career with a recording of Hildegard von Bingen, a 12th-century Benedictine nun whose liturgical works were revolutionary for their evocative texts and melodic range. Eighteen years after that debut, the group returned to von Bingen and provide a rich context for the material, complimenting it with music that Hildegard and her nuns would have sung in daily services. Haunting and ethereal, it is an excellent introduction to Early Music from one of the genreā€™s brightest modern ensembles.
