Andrés Cepeda's 2006 release is a big, shimmering production value compaña-rocking block party, just like loyal fans the whole world round would expect. From flawless performances to elaborate arrangements to tone like molten gold, Andrés Cepeda is a Latin pop showpiece of an album. With tracks like the straight-up rock "Mentras Mas Pasaba el Tiempo" to the elusively grooving salsa/pop "Para Amarte Mejor" to the dark, melancholy son "El Carpintero de Amor," the album's strength lies in the ability to find each song's unique voice. Of course, doing those different styles justice requires utilizing some of the scene's finest in studio talent. The creativity of each beautifully layered track is thanks in no small part to Latin music mastermind Sergio George, who has had his fingers in some of the genre's best music over the last ten years. Cepeda's switch over to Univision Music Group seems to have been a good decision, as he may never have sounded as good or well supported. For those unfamiliar with this gem of an artist, Andrés Cepeda is a heck of an introduction. For the dedicated fan, prepare to be surprised and hear an old favorite like it was the first time. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, Rovi
